Part one of our long-awaited conversation with Angela McRobbie, pioneer of feminist cultural studies, covering her recent book that looks back to her classic work of the 70s and 80s from the vantage of the present, then discussing the development of her studies of youth culture, media politics and the changing social reality of gender from the 1970s to the early 21st century.

Jem recorded a 25 minute introduction for the benefit of anyone unfamiliar with Angela’s work or the context for some of the debates that she refers to, but you can always fast forward through that bit if you know all that already.

We had a lot of problems with audio at Angela’s end, and then Jem had to edit this while on holiday, but we have really got it cleaned up as much as is humanly possible and everyone should find it perfectly listenable.
