The End of the World as We Know It: Catastrophe Culture

Alan and Jem discuss the role that images of total catastrophe play in our culture and our politics: from fears of nuclear war to visions of environmental and social breakdown. We talk about, among many other things, the post-war peace movement, Hobbes’ vision of society and The Lord of the Rings. (Jem also misremembers the plot of Silent Running, but gets the general vibe right).
