Corbynism (and what Laclau & Mouffe might tell us about it)

This session featured a conversation between Jeremy Gilbert, Marina Prentoulis of Syriza London and Michael Calderbank of Red Pepper. The conversation tried both to unpick the nature of ‘Corbynism’ as a historic event and a new (or not?) type of political movement and to introduce some relevant concepts from recent political theory which might help us in understanding it. In particular, the ‘post-Marxist’ theories of hegemony, populism, political pluralism and radical democracy encountered in the work of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe were introduced and considered in the context of this analysis.

Unfortunately we don’t have a recording of this session.
